About the event
The effects of doing regular mindfulness practices can be deeply resonant and personal. However, evidence shows the success of mindfulness training programs is dependent on the teachers’ embodiment of mindfulness in both guidance and reflection.
This experiential retreat will provide health care professionals the opportunity to develop this embodiment and build a deeper understanding of whether, how, when and why to draw on mindfulness practices in treatment settings.
The Principles and Practices of Mindfulness retreat program is structured around the gold standard Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) curriculum, and the four foundations of mindfulness that underpin it. MBSR is the mindfulness course with the strongest evidence of effectiveness for reducing psychological distress and aiding recovery from common mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression and substance use.
You will learn how and why the core mindfulness practices work to cultivate cognitive control, emotional regulation, self-efficacy and life satisfaction.
Your teacher: Dr Larissa Bartlett has been practicing yoga and meditation for 15 years and is registered to teach the MBSR program through the Mindfulness Training Institute of Australasia. She has a PhD from the Menzies Institute for Medical Research in the health and social effects of mindfulness training. Her research has been published in high impact journals and shows that different approaches to teaching and learning mindfulness have variable effects on personal, social and performance outcomes. Dr Bartlett offers this course to support the confidence of health care professionals to use and apply the principles and practices of mindfulness in their daily lives and with their consumers.
